Many people say California’s housing market is slowing down, but I wouldn’t call it a “down market.” It’s more of a steady market with great opportunities, especially for today’s homebuyers.
A recent article from Realtor.com highlighted five key reasons to buy a home during an economic slowdown, and I completely agree with every one of them. In fact, I’d even add a few more from what I’m seeing in our local market.
Here are some of the main takeaways for buyers right now:
1. The market favors buyers.
When the economy cools, sellers become more motivated and buyers finally get room to negotiate. Homes that once triggered bidding wars are now selling with better terms and fairer prices.
2. You have time on your side.
In a calmer market, buyers can take the time to do proper inspections, compare options, and make smart decisions—without the pressure of rushing.
3. Sellers are open to negotiation.
With fewer active buyers, sellers are more willing to offer concessions or price reductions. This means you can often secure a better deal or even have closing costs covered.
4. Interest rates may improve.
If the economy slows further, the Fed may ease rates, which could lower borrowing costs and improve affordability for first-time buyers and investors alike.
5. You’re building long-term equity.
Buying in a slower market means positioning yourself for significant growth once the cycle rebounds. If you’re financially ready, this could be the smartest time to buy.
If you’ve been thinking about right-sizing your home, purchasing your first property, or even investing in real estate, now is a great time to explore your options. I have access to some excellent listings and creative financing opportunities that can make your next move a smart one.
Let’s talk about what’s possible for you in today’s market.
